THE BUTLER REALLY DID DO IT HERE!
The dangers inherent in falling out with Butlers are not to be underestimated. Two woman who lived in the country house in the UK, now occupied by Prince and Princess Michael of Kent had a Butler for 40 years. When they announced after dinner that they would have to "let him go", he served coffee as usual, selected a 12-bore from the gunroom ...... and shot them.
DUKE OF MARLBOROUGH
Working in private service can be very confusing. People want someone who is part of the family, but who is still their staff. Younger employers may find the balance particularly hard to strike. Not that old money always treat private staff with respect. At Blenheim Palace, near Oxford/UK, almost a quarter of a mile from the staff quarters, a former Duke of Marlborough still rang for the Butler to change television channels.
BUTLERS HURT AFTER FLEEING PRINCE
CAIRO (Reuters, November 18, 1998) - Two Egyptian butlers were hospitalized in serious condition Tuesday after being injured while trying to escape from a high-rise hotel where they had worked for a Saudi Prince, the police said. Ahmed Noureddin and Ahmed Abdel-Satar tied bed sheets together and used them to lower themselves from the 29th floor of the Ramsis Hilton to the 26th, and were injured when jumping to the 24th floor, the police said. The police said Abdel-Satar claimed the Prince's American bodyguards had forced them to stay in the hotel for two years. Abdel-Satar also asked authorities to "save'' nine other butlers working for the Prince, who lived in the hotel. Hotel officials were not immediately available for comment. The police said Abdel-Satar spoke of ``torture and humiliation'' by the guards and complained that he had not been paid for six months. The police said they had a file on the bodyguards, who in 1996 had beaten up an Egyptian who was parking his car near the Prince's.
